The graduation/going away party went off (surprisingly) without a hitch! We found all the parts to the 20 year old tents and managed to get them up thanks to the help from dad's experience and my very tall boyfriend! The day before, Aunt Cay, Grandma and mom transformed the house into a festive atmosphere with beautiful flower arrangements, colored drapes, and gold sparkle peacock feathers (necessity!). Catherine and Katie arrived on Saturday just in time to watch the World Cup game, oh- and help with some last minute set-up ;) At 6pm Jonathan and Emily were our first guests, and the party could officially start.
I wanted to make sure that everyone understood what it was going to be like for Savanna and I to live in Dhaka, so I arranged for the sun to blaze in full force and a random unannounced rainstorm to strike (but only for a few minutes- I didn't want to totally ruin the party). That way, everyone could understand how we are going to be feeling for the next 10 months. My dashboard weather says that it is currently 93 degrees and thunderstorming in Dhaka (which actually seems like a relief from the 100 degree high in Cville today...). The heat in combination with the army of mosquitos really added to the atmosphere we were going for. Everyone remained in high spirits, though!
We enjoyed a variety of different Indian foods and desserts along with scrummy cake brought by Grandma O'Brien! After eating, friends, family and neighbors mingled outside and inside, some watching the slideshow and others dancing in the dinning room ;) I feel so lucky to have so many of my loved ones come together for a big gathering before my departure (and sad for all those who were unable to make it)! In 3 weeks, when I'm on the plane (clutching Savanna's hand until she loses circulation), I'll be able to look back on this fun evening and remember the coconut shrimp, the sari-wrapping techniques, the S-A-M charades, and so much s'more :).
The morning after the party Mom and I couldn't sleep, so we went downstairs and decided to open presents! You guys are so thoughtful and unique in your gift-giving! I don't think there is anything else I need to purchase for the big adventure, except maybe some more picture frames to put all the fabulous pictures from the party on display! I am set from my umbrella, to my space saving packer, to a journal, books to read, Disney power hour (to entertain new friends!), a personalized bag to take to the market, and so many other perfect nick-nacks. Thanks to everyone, again <3 I miss you all already!

Sorry, your Aunt Cay is trying to figure out how to blog! :)
Diane,
I was thrilled to hear from you last night! What a treat! Cannot wait for you to send us pictures of your home and school and surroundings! Isn't Aunt Cay special...... she is thinking about you a ton and also....yes, keeping me sane while you are away! I know this is a busy week with orientation, but jot a quick note to let us know how you are fairing! Love, Mom
Yaaaaaaaaaaay I'm so glad you girls made it safe and that Tatqiq made it out alive from Doha - I hear Qatar is infamous for stealing rare zoo animals. I (also) can't wait for pictures and was (also) so thrilled to hear from you! Can't wait till you get internet!!!
